As my vita reflects, I am very active locally, as well as with regional and national organizations. After serving many years in a variety of capacities for the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), I stepped in to the position of Costume Commissioner. USITT is one of the (if not THE) leading organizations for artists and technicians in the entertainment industry. During my tenure as Costume Commissioner I introduced three new positions: Vice Commissioner for Hair/Wigs and Makeup and Vice Commissioner for Archives and Vice Commissioner for Student Interests. I am extremely proud of my helping to promote student involvement with the Student Leadership Initiative (SLA). Since conference programming happens one year in advance, students who may want to present or be on a panel, will not have that opportunity. The SLA guarantees one session will be reserved for three students to present their work. The Vice Commissioner for Student Interests promotes this and all other student activities within the Commission. My most recent contribution to the Commission was the addition of the promotions special project. As more of the membership is becoming mid-career or later, it became apparent that senior exterior evaluators were needed. The leader for this project collects names of full professors who are willing to serve as external evaluators and supplies them to those seeking promotion.
After serving as vice president for the faculty senate at The University of Alabama, I was recently elected t president. I look forward to the challenges this position brings. It is an exciting time at the University as searches for a new president, provost and Vice President for Advancement are concluding.
I serve as a complaint compliance officer for the College of Arts and Sciences. While it would be nice to not have the need for such a position, I do truly enjoy the challenges that it presents. I find the investigating interesting and the problem solving rewarding.
Prior to these activities I was extremely active with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Previously, I was the Design Chair for Region VI in Arkansas. I was fortunate to continue those activities soon after arriving at The University of Alabama in Region IV, where I served three years as vice chair for design, followed by a three year term as chair for design. The connections I made while in these positions have proven invaluable, both for myself professionally, as well as for my students.
All of these activities afford me the opportunity to meet a vast array of individuals, both locally as well as on the national level. Ultimately, these relationships often result in professional relationships for my students.
